This meditation was reportedly from His Holiness the Dalai Lama but I can’t confirm this. None the less, it is a wonderful meditation that allows you to connect with nature. Research has shown that connecting with nature can improve mood, overall health and energy.
The Sunrise Healing Meditation is particularly potent because it not only helps you connect with nature; it also allows you extract the essence. Extracting the essence of elements (earth, water, fire, wind, space) helps you to increase the subtle energy within you. This subtle energy is around and in all of us. We can lose this energy through trauma, illness or difficult circumstances. Extracting the essence is known as hooking back the Lha – the life force energy.
Here is what Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche says about Sunrise Meditation:
"Every morning at sunrise, I dedicate 20 to 30 minutes to sunlight meditation. This ritual not only sets my internal clock and aligns my circadian rhythm but also tunes the clock of my inner awareness to the day's energies, distinguishing between the awareness of night and day. It's a practice that truly sets the tone for my day."
You can do this meditation while watching the sunrise or you can just visualize the sunrise at any time of the day.
The Meditation
Begin by witnessing the sunrise at dawn. A luminous sphere slowly emerges from the darkness. Its radiance fills the sky and radiates through all of space.
You are immersed in this light, luminous and bright.
Bit by little bit you are illuminated and warmed by the rising orb. Feel the warmth; feel it fill you with light. You are wrapped in an embrace of light. Breath it in. Feel it enter every pore of your body.
Allow yourself to be absorbed into and by the light. Feel your worry and sadness slowly dissolve into the brightness.
When you have merged with the light, it will be within you everywhere.
Meditation Throughout the Day
Every day, throughout the day, focus on the light.
Imagine that the entire universe and all beings are bathed in light.
If you are feeling tired, sad or discouraged, think about the light and feel its brightness and warmth.
