Healing from the Inside Out

Tibetan Buddhist healing starts at the deepest level of ourselves, moving outward to our subtle energy body then to our physical body. The healing blossoms outward like the gentle unfolding of a flower.

This process of moving from the deepest outward, occurs repeatedly, recycling again and again. It takes time but it enables a healing and awakening of body, mind and spirit, together holistically.

It starts by connecting to that part of ourselves that is already healed. That part that is actually beyond illness and wellness altogether. It is pure loving-awareness. We connect to that as deeply as we can given our level of wisdom and understanding.

Connecting at that deepest level leads to an unfolding of a plan to work with the subtle energy body. That might take the form of prayer, mantra, breath work or even just talking to ourselves with self-compassion.  In fact, the whole process is about self-compassion.

This subtle energy work then unfolds naturally into things we do for our body. We might be moved to exercise or we might have an insight to see a particular therapist. It becomes very intuitive, very organic.  We might look at our diet or our medicines. Anything might unfold if we allow it.

We then cycle back to refocusing at a deeper level again. We never left the deeper work, we just re-emphasize it. Again blossoming into subtle energy body work and then physical body work.

When we see a flower blossom, it looks like the outside opens and reveals the flower within. But really it all goes on within the flower bud. So much going on inside. Then when the flower is ready, it pushes from the inside out, unfolding.

Sometimes we don’t even notice the work as it unfolds. It is just so natural, we just do what needs to be done. It is natural intuitive flow if we let it.

Our progress can be slow. Our smaller mind gets impatient. Our ego mind gets worried, afraid. We get feelings of failing. Sometimes we feel we need to rush around trying different treatments, different doctors, different therapists.

We may get angry, frustrated or irritated. We may try to ignore what is going with our bodies, our illness, our pain.

Whatever our small mind style, doesn’t really matter. The point is to see these superficial risings of suffering for what they are. These feelings sometimes seem overwhelming. They may seem real and substantial.

The answer is to reconnect within ourselves, to our deeper selves. Reconnect with the loving-awareness beyond illness and wellness. This will be our guide, our rudder, our compass.  Allow the natural unfolding of healing.

Reconnecting means to bring our conscious awareness into awareness itself. Become the loving-awareness. Actually we don’t become, because we already are. We just re-become loving awareness.
